It’s no secret that Team VIC’s explosive rows with rival contestants on House Rules have garnered widespread fury from fans.
But after previously revealing that the backlash from the show had caused her to retreat from the spotlight, fiery mum-of-three Fiona admits that it’s also affected her best friend and team-mate Nicole.
“Nic hasn’t been able to go back to her old job. People don’t realise how their actions affect people,” the 44-year-old tells New Idea.
“My theory is that if we’d been two blokes, things would have been different.”
“Because we’re women, we’re seen as whingeing.”
Since the show first went to air, Fiona and Nicole have copped endless abuse online for over their controversial comments.
“We’ve even got our own hate page!” the single mum confesses.
But for now, Fiona says she’s learning to deal with the intense scrutiny the pair have come under.
“At first, I was really emotional. But I’ve had to stop and ignore it and just focus on what’s important in life.”
