Tasmanian House rule couple Ella and Sean have revealed that the stress of participating in the hit home renovation show is the least of their worries.
Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, Ella said that she learned her stepfather had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer just months before filming.
The 24-year-old said that step dad Mark Webb was given six months to live over 18 months ago – however miraculously, he is still working as a sheep farmer in Tasmania.
Thanks to his inclusion on a drug trial through Melbourne’s Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Mr Webb is fighting fit.
According to the Telegraph the Tasmanian man has seen a significant reduction in cancer cells and no growth. He works six days running his two Tasmanian farms and livestock marketing business
“You’re lucky to stop him working,” spilled Ella. “It’s hard to slow him down. Sometimes you have to remind him that he does have an illness and needs to slow down a bit, but I guess (staying busy) is what keeps him going.”
Speaking of her decision to participate in House Rules, despite his diagnosis, Ella said: “He was diagnosed before we went on the show. It was hard leaving him. You want to be around and make sure everything’s OK, it was hard going away for such a huge chunk of time.”
We’ve got a very supportive family and my stepdad’s got a good outlook, he’s come a long way.
“He looks healthier than me!”
