While all the contestants on Channel Seven’s House Rules are touched by Graeme’s heartbreaking story, it really hit home for Lisa and Australian firefighter Andy.
WATCH HOUSE RULES EXCLUSIVE: Quick questions with Lisa & Andy
“Look as a firey we do catch a lot of people at their worst,” Andy tells New Idea.
“When Graeme was telling me his story, it really hit home. Generally, I go in, we fight the fire we get it under control and that’s our job done. This obviously gave me a unique perspective. The fire has been fought so now I get to help rebuild the house. It was nice to be able to give something back to the family.”
Andy’s job as a firefighter has also seen him go into a number of dangerous situations, but the now reality TV star says that House Rules’ Lisa, never worries about his safety.
“She is pretty used to it,” he says. “I used to be in the military, and I’ve been overseas and stuff so this is child’s play to her. It’s just like water off a duck’s back.”
Of course, Andy admits that he and his team are well trained.
“It all comes down to having a strong knowledge base. Going into a fire not having knowledge would be life-threatening,” he says. “It all comes down to proper training and a good crew, that makes the job safe.”
