Gordon Hunt, acting coach, director and father of actress Helen Hunt has passed away.
The Oscar-winning actress confirmed the sad news to The Hollywood Reporter, telling the publication her father died at 87 on December 17 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
“He was a master of reinvention, a journeyman artist,” the Mad About You star told THR. “He knew and taught that the work doesn’t always find you. You need to create and re-create the work every day.”
Hunt, who started working in the early 1980s, worked as the recording director on cartoons including The Smurfs, Richie Rich, The Jetsons, and The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo.
As an acting coach, his students included Jimmy Fallon, Robert Morse (Mad Men), Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) and more.
Gordon is survived by his wife, B.J. Ward, daughters Helen and Colleen, his brothers, George and Peter, and three grandchildren, Makena, Emmett and Lizzie.
