Happy Days star Erin Moran died of Stage 4 cancer, a final autopsy has found.
Despite early suggestions that the 56-year-old succumbed to a heroin overdose on April 22, a report made by the Harrison County Coroner and obtained by ET confirmed that “no illegal narcotics were involved in her death.”
The news comes just one month after the husband of the actress – who was best known for her role as Joanie Cunningham on the hit show – penned a heartbreaking open letter revealing that she had passed away in her sleep at her home in Indiana.

“She woke up on the 22nd, she was not 100%” Steve Fleischmann wrote.
“She needed Kleenex, so I went to the store and came back. She was there watching TV in bed. I laid down next to her, held her right hand in my left. I fell asleep, woke up about a (sic) hour later still holding her hand and she was gone.”
Fleischmann, who had been married to the star since 1993, explained that Moran had been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in December 2016, but her condition had quickly deteriorated.
