The X-Factor judge stated that his experience in the Assemblies of God church was not a positive one.

‘I was in something that was very manipulative and very controlling, but there are a lot of beautiful people who are in the faith,’ he explained.

The 35-year-old said those who questioned things were judged and its beliefs, when it came to right and wrong, were sketchy.

‘It became very much about a set of rules and you’re judged on that,’ he said.

‘If anybody broke away from it, or questioned it, then you had a ‘bad attitude,’ or were ‘drifting away,’ or ‘not worthy.’

This isn’t the first time the singer has spoken out against the church, where he met his now wife Jules at 13.

In 2012, Sebastian told of the first time he started to doubt his belief system after a friend from church fled the country after coming out as gay as he feared the backlash he would receive.

The original Australian Idol contestant still believes in God, however bases it on his own personal relationship.

‘I still believe in God, I still believe in the fundamentals of that. But I base it on the fact God is love,’ he said.
