Friends fear wheelchair-bound Star Trek icon Nichelle Nicholls – who played Uhura on the hit show – is in serious trouble as she continues to suffer the long-term effects of a debilitating stroke.
After the 84-year-old actress was wheeled through Los Angeles International Airport on New Year’s Day, a source described her as ‘drained and listless’, adding that she is allegedly ‘literally on her last legs’.
Her reps have dismissed grave fears for her health by explaining the wheelchair was only used because of a long security line and distance to her gate, but insiders aren’t convinced.
She suffered a stroke that limited her mobility on her right side in June 2015, but her spokesperson insists Nichelle, who played Lieutenant Uhura in the 60s TV series, ‘hasn’t felt better in years’ and even has her doctor’s clearance to attend Star Trek conventions.
