It’s believed two people have been placed in an induced coma and another 14 were hospitalised after taking the drug.

It’s believed Stephens may have taken “flakka”. However, The Sydney Morning Herald says some reports suggest the player’s overdose may have ben linked to a potent form of the street drug MDMA.

Heathcote Saints club president Andrew Conforti said Stephens was celebrating with his teammates when he allegedly ingested the drug.

‘It’s disappointing, but unfortunately they decided to try something and they’re now paying the price.’
