Married At First Sight proved too raw for Gogglebox favourites Wayne and Tom last night, with the tears flowing following a particularly painful personal realisation.
Fan fave Wayne was reduced to tears during the same sex wedding sequence, with his partner of 15 years Tom asking, ‘Ahh, are you getting romantic?’
‘No, it’s making me sad,’ answered Wayne. ‘It’s mum’s birthday on Saturday, and it’s the one thing she wanted, was to see us married, and we’re never going to get to do it.’
With emotions understandably very high, Tom comforted Wayne by replying, ‘We can one day.’
Fans flooded social media with words of support, with some pointing out how ridiculous it is that two people who have been together for so long, and who have raised children together, can not legally wed.
Wayne popped the question to Tom during a recent European holiday, but the pair have no plans to go through with a ceremony until it is legally recognised.
‘If my own country can’t recognise the value of people like us, I won’t do it,’ Wayne has said. ‘You’re talking about civil rights, because if Tom was sick and I had to pull the plug, I’m legally not allowed to do it.’
