‘I mean, c’mon, how can this picture NOT make you happy?’

The upcoming Ghostbusters sequel may have critics divided, but there’s no bad blood between castmembers new and old.

In celebration of Ghostbusters Day – the anniversary of the day the first film was released in 1989 – director of the new female reboot Paul Feig shared a photo that has everyone smiling – literally!

Taking to Twitter, Paul posted a photo of Bill Murray, Annie Potts, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, Dan Aykroyd, Melissa McCarthy, Ernie Hudson and Kristen Wiig, along with Ray Parker Jr, who wrote and performed the now iconic theme song.

‘I mean, c’mon, how can this picture NOT make you happy?’ he captioned the shot. ‘This is an epic group of people. Happy Ghostbusters Day!’

Ghostbusters hits Australian cinemas on July 14.

Speaking of the new cast on Jimmy Kimmel Live! the original stars had nothing but praise for their female counterparts.

‘We’re really, really happy. These women performers are great and all the guys in the movie are just fine, too,’ said Dan, while Ernie added: ‘The girls are amazing and really, really funny.’

Bill expanded that the reimaging of the film with a female cast of talented comediennes really appealed to him.

‘It was only because these girls were funny. When you see the film, you think, “Are these girls gonna pull it off?”’ he said. ‘There’s no quit in these girls, this is a tough movie to pull off, it’s a big concept, there’s a lot on the plate, there’s a lot of expectations.’
