The investigation into the death of iconic pop legend George Michael has taken a dramatic turn today, with the revelation that the Major Crimes Squad has now been put in charge of the case.
Amid fears from detectives that George may have passed from a drug overdose – despite an inconclusive autopsy result – one major British picture agency has now been approached by police to hand over all images showing comings and goings near the star’s house before his death.
George’s Aussie boyfriend Fadi Fawaz – who found his body on Christmas Day – is also set to be interviewed again by police, reports UK newspaper The Sun.
‘The investigation is now picking up a bit of speed,’ a source told the newspaper.
‘Officers from the Major Crime Unit have begun asking questions of those who were in the area at the time George died and the days before.
‘They want to build up an idea of what George’s last seven days were like and who came and went.
‘These individuals now handling the day-to-day inquiries have worked on some very serious crimes so are well placed to assist with this.’
No one has yet to be charged, and the official public line remains that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding George’s tragic death at age 53.
