Former children’s show presenter Michael ‘Tunny’ Tunn appeared in court on Tuesday after he was caught shoplifting pies, sausage rolls and t-shirt.
Now 42, Tunn, who at the age of the 17 became Australia’s youngest DJ on Triple J, pleaded guilty to one basic count of dishonestly taking property without consent, committed at Coles in Firle on December 14 last year, The Advertiser reports.
Representing Tunn, Robert Lempens asked the court for leniency.
‘He is in his 40s, has bipolar issues, is on medication, sees a psychiatrist once a month and says he has been making some bad decisions at times,’ he said.
‘Previously he was involved in producing radio, now he is involved in community-based radio and the internet … he receives no money for that work.
‘He receives a disability pension and has about $40 a day to provide for the necessities of life.’
Tunn was released without conviction, fined $50 and ordered to pay $260 in levies and prosecution costs.
