The previous two season of The Bachelor have seen somewhat of a trend for single mums
Solo mothers Snezana Markoski and Alex Nation won their bachelor’s hearts in their respective seasons.
But what wasn’t known at the time was that there was actually another single mum on Richie Strahan’s season.
Choosing not to make her situation known whilst filming, Sophie Edwards, now 29 is a single mum to two-year-old Jaxon.
In a touching letter to Mamamia, the customer support manager describes how she adopted her nephew due to her sister’s complications with Asperger’s syndrome.
‘It was evident straight away that my sister wasn’t able to bond with or didn’t want to bond with Jaxon,’ Sophie explained, before describing how her sister, and Jaxon’s birth mum also struggled with drug addiction and she happily took on the parenting role, with the support of their mother and other sister, Danielle.
‘I never knew what love was until I laid eyes on him,’ Sophie recalls.
‘Every child has the right to have parents that put them first, there was never any question as to whether or not I would take him into my care,’ she continues.
‘My sister still has a role in his life, this is a very important and special role and he will know where he came from when he is old enough to understand, I will never hide anything from him.’
Sophie left early on in the show during a double eviction, and although there was no mention of Jaxon on air, her Bachelor profile did hint at her unusual circumstance.
‘Passionate Sophie hadn’t experienced true love until her 18-month-old nephew came into her life. The selfless auntie is ready to open her heart and life to the right person.’
