There are growing fears for the health and wellbeing of reality TV mother, ‘Mama June’ Shannon, who appears to be continuing a very rapid downward weight loss spiral after undergoing radical stomach surgery.
Posing on the red carpet in Atlanta (see pictures below with her former child beauty queen daughter, Honey Boo Boo, 11), June seems to have lost even more weight than when she announced just weeks ago that she’d dropped a whopping 72kgs.
After successfully trimming down to 86kgs (she originally weighed 159kgs) in order to undergo skin removal surgery, the reality star confessed to being horrified with the results.
‘I thought this surgery was going to make me feel better but it hasn’t,’ she admitted during on reality show Mama June: From Not to Hot.
‘I’ve seen a lot of changes in her,’ admits Honey Boo Boo. ‘She like walks around the house naked and stuff.’
Mama June admits to a gastric sleeve, breast implants, skin removal – particularly on her so-called ‘turkey neck’ and ‘bat wings’ – as well as her belly. Surgery on her stomach area involved removal of nearly 5 kilos of skin and other tissue.
Her surgery is believed to have cost in excess of $75,000.
‘I don’t consider a tummy tuck or face skin removal plastic surgery,’ she told People magazine. ‘I believe it’s something that makes you feel better than you did with the skin hanging.’
There are now fears about how June’s emotionally fraught weight loss and surgery drama will affect her impressionable kids. Responding to questions if she’d allow her daughters Alana, 11, and Lauryn. 17, to also have plastic surgery to lose weight, Shannon said she’d have no problems with it.
“I do encourage them to lose weight, but they’re teenagers.”
“If it would make them confident, then yes, I would recommend the surgery. You have to do your research, definitely, and that’s what got me into the gastric sleeve. That helps you lose as much weight as possible.”
