It’s official Isaiah Firebrace will represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.
The announcement was made in Melbourne on Tuesday March 3, with Isaiah saying: “I’m so proud to be representing Australia as our entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. Even though it has been a dream of mine, never did I think for one minute it would be a possibility. To be able to share this news with my family and friends is unbelievable. I can’t wait to go to the Ukraine to perform ‘Don’t Come Easy’. I will make Australia proud. Thank you to SBS and my label Sony for believing in me and giving me the opportunity of a lifetime.”
This will be Australia’s third year participating in the song contest, which was originally only open to European countries.
Last year, Dami Im placed second overall with the ‘Sound of Silence’. Guy Sebastian first represented Australia in 2015 with the song ‘Tonight Again’.
While Australia is celebrating its third year participating in the song contest – which was traditionally only open to European countries – there has been one blow dealt to the Aussie side.
Last week it was revealed that longtime hosts of SBS’ coverage of the event, Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang, will step down and be replaced by new hosts.
The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine on May 9, 11 and 13.
