Comedian Nazeem Hussain has become emotional on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Outta Here, as he revealed the personal toll recent terror attacks and community fears have taken on he and his family.
Filming the ‘Jungle Radio’ segment with radio host Steve Price, Nazeem spoke of how the Lindt terror siege had personally affected him – according to an episode preview posted on news.com.au.
‘That was horrific. It was very frightening for a lot of people. My sister texted me and said, “Nazeem, I’m scared to wear the hijab home, because I’m afraid someone’s going to attack me.”’
But as Australians of all backgrounds rallied together during the crisis, their fears were allayed.
‘She messaged me later on saying, “You know what? I now feel comfortable and safe knowing my fellow Australians are willing to stand up and support me,” said an emotional Nazeem.
‘It made me cry when that happened, because we don’t see that enough. We don’t see Australians coming together for each other. That [terrorist] wanted to divide Australia — he wanted us to turn on each other. But what he did instead is make us come together.’
