Ellen DeGeneres is secretly fighting emotional issues off screen, which threaten her marriage to Portia de Rossi – according to a sensational report published in the US today.
Amid a string of reports about the allegedly harsh way Ellen treats some staff on her show off camera, the star has recently surprised some fans with her less-than-sunny outlook – including one segment where she entrapped and publicly shamed audience members for stealing cheap merchandising worth no more than a few dollars. Now according to US Globe magazine, insiders are raising warnings that all may not be well with the star.
In addition to her dark moments, a source told US magazine Globe that Ellen sometimes exhibits concerning ‘mood swings’, which are increasingly raising alarm bells .
“Portia is beside herself,” confides the insider. “She’s tried to hold on for so long, but Ellen’s driving her crazy now, she feels she’s walking on eggshells.”
The talk show star has admitted in the past that she suffered from an emotional crisis after her sitcom Ellen got axed in 1998 and she came out as a lesbian, which caused a cruel backlash.
“I moved out of L.A., went into a severe depression, started seeing a therapist and had to go on antidepressants for the first time in my life,” Ellen revealed in a saddening recent interview.
“It was scary and lonely. All I’d known for 30 years was work, and all of a sudden I had nothing. Plus, I was mad. It didn’t feel fair – I was the same person everyone had always known.”
According to Globe, Portia’s also reportedly upset with Ellen’s drinking, which in 2011 allegedly led Portia and close friends to beg her to get help. Then in March this year, Ellen tried to turn her dislocated finger into a funny drinking story on her talk show.
“Well, I had two glasses of wine and fell into a door. The dogs were so excited to see us … I fell into the door and … I dislocated my finger,” the comedienne explained to the audience.
However, friends say Portia isn’t laughing and is hoping Ellen snaps out of it soon.
