They’re two of Australia’s biggest stars who’ve shared an enduring 17-year friendship.
Now, Elle Macpherson and Greg Norman are set to take their bond to a new level, with the golfing legend becoming matchmaker to the unlucky-in-love supermodel.
Sources tell New Idea that since Elle split from her billionaire husband Jeffrey Soffer last month – her second high-profile divorce – Greg has offered to help the 53-year-old mum-of-two find love.
The 62-year-old – who’s happily married to wife Kirsten – made the decision after Elle reached out to him on a recent social media post, which re-opened the lines of communication.
‘Greg can’t believe that someone as successful, gorgeous, fun and smart as Elle has had her heart broken again,’ a source close to the golfer reveals.
‘He knows what it’s like to have failed marriages – his divorces from first wife Laura Andrassy and tennis champ Chris Evert weren’t all smooth sailing. But he’s since gone on to great happiness with Kirsten, who he married in 2010.
‘Greg knows a lot of really great older businessmen and sporting types who’d give anything to have a goddess like Elle on their arm, and he’s reached out to tell Elle that when she’s ready to date, he’d love to help.
‘They’ve been friends for years and are two Aussies living in the US – Greg wants to be a friend to Elle in her time of need.’
Elle and Greg have never made any secret of their friendship over the years. But it was rekindled last week when Elle cheekily commented ‘Wowsa’ on a snap of a very ripped and muscly Greg posing nude by a stream – a photo that attracted a lot of social media attention.
Greg has made a habit of showing off his amazing body, which at age 62 is better than many guys half his age. The shots have built him a legion of new female admirers, but friends say it all means nothing to Greg – who only has eyes for wife Kirsten.
‘Getting praise from Elle “The Body” Macpherson is an ego boost to any guy, and Greg’s no different,’ says an insider. ‘But he’s completely in love with Kirsten. It was love at first sight when they met in 2009 – and nothing’s changed.’
