Elle Macpherson has done a lot of things in her career that were big news at the time, but are now distant memories: her nude romp in tepid sex comedy Sirens, that ubiquitous swimwear calendar that adorned thousands of teen boys’ bedroom walls but is now just another forgotten layer of landfill, and of course, selling a hell of a lot of department store bras in the 90s.
But the onetime model can’t escape one thing from her past, and it’s clear she was never expecting the longevity and scrutiny it’s achieved. That’s right – her five-episode stint on Friends continues to haunt her, with incessant reruns and the attentions of obsessive fans clearly getting up her nose.
‘If I’d known how important it was in the US, or how long it would be on TV, I may not have chosen to do it,’ Elle told TV Week. ‘It was a lot of pressure if you look at it in the way that it will be around for 20 or 30 years.’
While Elle only appeared in the show for a short run, rumours at the time had it she received a less-than-warm welcome from the established female cast members on the show. She claims she was offered an extended run but had to leave it as she was based in London at the time.
