Tragic news for E! News host Maria Menounos, who has been diagnosed with a benign brain tumour.
Speaking to People, the 39-year-old revealed she underwent surgery last month to remove a golf ball-sized tumour which was discovered back in February.
The star also revealed that she is also caring for her mother, who is currently fighting stage-four brain cancer.
“I didn’t cry. I actually laughed,” she recalled. “It’s so surreal and crazy and unbelievable that my mum has a brain tumour — and now I have one too?”
Even though 99.9 per cent of the tumour has been removed, Maria admitted that there is still a tiny chance that it could come back.
But despite the shock diagnosis, the experienced host – who has worked for E!, Extra and Access Hollywood in the past – says she sees the situation as a “blessing” that brought her family closer and led her to re-evaluate her life.
A statement from Maria revealed that she is leaving the E! News network after three years.
“I am so grateful for the past three years at E!, I had such an amazing time co-hosting with Jason Kennedy and working everyday with the wonderful roster of talent on the show including producers, staff and crew,” she said.
“It was such a special, good-hearted group and one I’ll always consider family…I will truly miss everyone and looking forward to this next chapter in my life.”
Speaking of her diagnosis back in February, the star said:
“I’d been getting lightheaded on set and having headaches.”
“My speech had gotten slurred and I was having difficulty reading the teleprompter.”
