Dreamworld heartbreak on re-opening weekend

The tragedy-plagued them park is back in business

It was supposed to be a new beginning, but Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld’s big reopening weekend has reportedly been a disappointment for some.

According to News Ltd, just 6000 visitors showed up for the park’s charity reopening, which represents a mere 30 per cent of the once-heaving park’s capacity. A source told the news outlet that figures are ‘below average weekend, quieter than average.’

It’s been six weeks since the Thunder River Rapids ride apparently malfunctioned, killing four people, and in the process leaving two young families motherless.

With some of the major rides continuing to undergo safety reviews, park insiders are hoping things will pick up soon. Now heartbroken staff are looking forward to the joy returning to the park – hopefully along with the big crowds it once attracted.

Dreamworld noted on it’s official Facebook page, The Dreamworld family has been overwhelmed by the crowds that have turned out this weekend. We’re truly thankful to have such an amazing community standing by our side ’
