Dr Phil’s ethics have been questioned over his upcoming interview with seriously ill 1970s movie star Shelley Duvall.

A preview of the interview has been slammed by legendary film director Stanley Kubrick’s daughter, Vivian, as Duvall is clearly suffering a mental illness. Advanced footage from the chat shows Shelley talking about how her former co-star Robin Williams isn’t really dead, and complaining of having alien implants.  She confesses to being very sick and in need of help – sparking a furious reaction from horrified friends, who feel she is being exploited. .

‘Dear Dr. Phil,’ wrote Vivian, whose late father directed Duvall in 1980’s The Shining. ‘You are putting Shelly Duvall “on show” while she is suffering from a pitiable state of ill health. Unquestionably, this is purely a form of lurid and exploitative entertainment — it’s appallingly cruel.’

She added: ‘Shelly Duvall was a movie star … whatever dignity a mere unfortunate creature might have in this world, is denied her by you displaying her in this way.’

Vivian finished her letter asking others not to watch the interview.

‘I recoil in complete disgust. I hope others will join me in boycotting your utterly heartless form of entertainment, because it has nothing to do with compassionate healing.

‘Sincerely disgusted, Vivian Kubrick.’
