For the first time in a long time, friends and family of Dr Chris Brown were convinced TV presenter Liv Phyland was the one who had stolen the hunky vet’s heart once and for all.
From the outside looking in, they were the picture-perfect couple. Not only did they share a love of the outdoors and surfing, but those who spent time with the pair – who began dating late last year – say Chris was completely smitten by the bubbly blonde beauty.
So much so that they’d even discussed plans to elope in South Africa once Chris wrapped up his hosting duties on Channel Ten’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! next month.
But it seems the fairytale romance has come to an end for the unlucky-in-love vet, with whispers Liv pulled the pin on the couple’s relationship just days after Chris had boarded his 14-hour flight for his annual stint in South Africa.
“Chris had only been gone for like 10 minutes before Liv decided it was all over,” reveals a source close to the 40-year-old former Bondi Vet.
“He’s absolutely devastated and heartbroken. This is the first time Chris has been dumped in a long time. He is usually the one who ends things, but he really thought Liv was the one.”
“He had met her parents and they loved him. Chris just slotted into her family and they all got on like a house on fire.”
News of the couple’s split comes after images emerged
of Liv partying with different male friends on social media over the holiday season, including former Bachelorette contestant Luke McLeod.
“Liv has always been a bit of a flirt,” dishes a friend, adding that while her flirtatious behaviour isn’t the reason behind the recent split, men usually find her free spirit and love of sport and music attractive.
“She’s always so bubbly and full of energy so guys just naturally flock to her.
“But Liv has always lapped up the attention and it’s caused problems in some of her past relationships, too.”
Liv previously dated model and actor Nick Slater for a little over a year before calling it quits.
Meanwhile, New Idea understands that, while those close to Chris were hoping this relationship would be the real deal, Liv has now certainly gained some exposure.
“Everyone loves Dr Chris,” explains the friend.
“He was the Bondi Vet, now he is on The Living Room and I’m A Celeb… Chris’ career is going from strength to strength. Liv, on the other hand, works on The Loop, a show not many people even know about or care to watch, and covers the odd red carpet here and there.
“A relationship with Chris has boosted her profile.”
Making matters worse, it’s believed Liv isn’t phased by the breakup.
“He’s just shattered,” the source adds.
