Once you get inside, the clearly speculative, but highly alarming, story in American publication Globe, claims the singer is ‘possibly’ suffering from the condition which is ‘impacting her ability to speak and sing’.
A reputed medical expert has told the publication that the 73-year old’s face muscles are ‘not functioning properly’, after reviewing a video of her.
‘They aren’t moving and appear to be paralyzed!’ Dr Gabe Mirkin is quoted as saying.
The doctor apparently believes the star may be suffering from Bell’s Palsy as a result. ‘This would make her look funny because she would smile only from the right side of her face,’ he says.
While most patients recover from the condition, the doctor warns that ‘small number of people continue to have some Bell’s palsy symptoms for life’ and it ‘would certainly affect her ability to control her lips, mouth words and singing.’
He adds that if Dolly has suffered from the condition prior then ‘she may have had plastic surgery to shorten that muscle on the left side so both sides of her face are balanced when she smiles and talks.’
A source also added that whatever is happening for the star could be ‘tragic’.
‘Whatever Dolly’s dealing with, it definitely appears to have affected her speech and, by extension, her singing. This could be tragic for her!’
Dolly has yet to comment on Globe‘s allegations. However she seemed to be doing OK when we checked her always-perky Twitter account today, with the star posting: ‘If you’re feeling a little low, put on a pair of high heels and stand a little taller! Always works for me!’
