Zara Tindall’s beloved horse Toytown has died at the age of 24.
The royal’s husband Mike Tindall took to social media to announce the heartbreaking news, paying tribute to the chestnut gelding who was affectionately known as “Noddy” and “Ginger.”
“Sad to say goodbye to the big man today, been a massive part of our lives giving us so many highs! RIP Toytown,” the former professional rugby player wrote.
In 2005, Zara and Toytown won individual and team gold at the European Championships, before going on to conquer the world title in Germany a year later.
But after his long and prestigious equestrian career left him suffering several injuries, the horse was officially retired in 2011.
“It’s the end of an era,” Zara told Daily Mail at the time.
“He was the horse of a lifetime for me. We grew up together, we went through the levels together, and it all just seemed to go our way.”
“His movement, his character, it all combined to make the complete horse,” she added.
“I don’t think I am ever going to find another horse quite like him, but hopefully others that will be good enough to go to the same level as he did.”
