He may have won The Voice, but the hugely talented Judah Kelly is battling to make the show’s much-promised path to a pop career come to anything.
His single Count On Me has dropped down the pop charts to number 53 on only its second week of release, after debuting at an anaemic number 19 last week. It’s a measure of the show’s appalling track record at producing stars that this position was the highest achieved by any The Voice winner in four years.
The track has sold under 12,000 copies over its two weeks of release, with little to no support from Australian radio.
Runner up Hoseah Partsch’s song Paper Planes only reached 35, with 1,206 copies shifted. He has yet to be signed to an album deal.
Neither track has been strongly supported by other musical platforms since the show went off air – once again leaving The Voice exposed to accusations it’s just a TV show, and not any kind of path to genuine stardom.
Wouldn’t it be great if radio supported great young Aussie talent like Judah and Hoseah?
