She may have adopted a raunchy new image, but Delta Goodrem is still a family girl at heart – with the pop star recently revealing she’s got babies on the brain.
Feeling as clucky as ever, the 33-year-old beauty told Who magazine that, despite her floundering love life, starting a family is definitely still on her agenda.
‘I always knew it would be a little later in life for me, I always knew that,’ says The Voice coach of becoming a mum.
‘Of course I look forward to when that chapter is, and that will be a beautiful moment.’
Currently single following her recent split with short-term beau Matthew Copley, Delta admits that after suffering several public heartbreaks over the years, she now prefers to keep her cards close to her chest when it comes to her love life.
‘I’ve accepted now there’s been an interest in the love life side,’ she concedes. ‘You know what? I think I know that it’s just not who I am to talk about it. I don’t fight it.’
With a string of past boyfriends to her name –including the likes of Mark Philippoussis, Brian McFadden, Nick Jonas and Drew Mitchell – recent reports have claimed Delta is prepared to tackle parenthood alone, should she not meet her Prince Charming.
And while she’ll happily take on the role of single mum, the star is still facing the uncertainty of whether or not she is able to physically have a baby following her 2003 cancer battle.
‘I don’t know if I’ll be able to have kids because the treatment can make you infertile,’ she has previously revealed.
‘At 18, I felt I was too young to even think about having my eggs frozen.’
The singer, however, remains undeterred – believing being a mum is written in her stars.
‘I love kids and I’m definitely looking forward to that chapter in my life, I really am!’ she says.
And while she eagerly awaits the day she welcomes a baby of her own, the Aussie starlet is channelling all her maternal instincts into being an aunt.
‘[Right now] my love is directed to my beautiful baby nephew,’ she says of her brother Trent’s 21-month-old son, Nate.
And just when the ARIA award-winner thought she couldn’t get any cluckier, there’s a new bundle of joy on the way – Trent and his wife Carly are set to welcome their second child.
‘That’s exciting,’ says Delta of the imminent arrival. ‘We’ll have another little munchkin in my brother’s household.’ And then, of course, there are her young fans, who Delta says she shares a special affinity with.
‘The amount of love I have with little kids that run up to me – I feel like Santa Claus sometimes,’ she says.
With so much love to give, Delta says she’s excited about what her future holds, both professionally and personally.
‘I love that I can still surprise people,’ she says. ‘I know I’ve still got plenty to surprise people with. I’ve always said you’ve got to have something up your sleeve. You have to outlast and eventually you wear people down and they’ll join the tribe!’
Now well into her thirties and comfortable in her own skin, the star says she has never been so sure of herself.
Having endured plenty of public backlash over the years, Delta says she is keen to put the past behind her.
‘I’ve changed, so it’s natural the perception of me has changed,’ she explains. ‘The ease into this chapter has felt effortless for me.’
