Newly released court documents have revealed that the teenager accused of decapitating his mother did it because he “felt like it.”
Police in in the US state of North Carolina were called to a ‘gruesome scene’ earlier this week, where they discovered an 18-year-old boy walking out of his family home holding his mother’s head in one hand and what appeared to be a butchers knife in the other.
According to a statement released by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, Oliver Funez Machado, was charged with first-degree murder on Monday.
Attachments to a search warrant filed after the teens arrest give a detailed timeline of the gruesome crime’s aftermath.
The documents say that when Funez was asked by an emergency dispatcher why he had killed his mother, Yesenia Beatriz Funez Machado, he said: “because I felt like it.”
It also states that he stabbed her eight times with the weapon before police arrived at the scene.

Two children who were also present at the time of the incident were unharmed.
Franklin County District Attorney Mike Waters told reporters on Tuesday that it could take weeks and months to determine the accused’s mental state.
Funez is set to appear in court on March 14.
