Dannii tells: Kylie’s baby tragedy

The star opens up on her sister's heartache

While Aussie star Dannii Minogue says she’s never been as maternal as her older sister Kylie, she admits that seeing her famous sibling deal with the heartbreak of not having a family has made her appreciate how “blessed” she really is.

In fact, in an interview with The Sunday Telegraph Magazine, the mother-of-one revealed it was a “great sadness” that the 48-year-old music icon has given up hope of having children, following her battle with breast cancer.

“Growing up it was Kylie who always wanted kids and I never did,” she confessed.

“When my brother Brendan had his little boy (10-year-old Charles) I hadn’t a clue how to hold him. I remember being really impressed by Kylie because she instinctively knew what to do.

“When he was a bit older, she’d be the one rolling on the floor with him, making him laugh his head off and I’d be thinking, ‘What do I do?’ she continued.

“When I got pregnant I was completely shocked. But having a baby changed everything. Kylie has been incredible with Ethan. She just loves him – I love seeing them together.”

Kylie’s tragic unfulfilled desire to start a family of her own is no secret.

Most recently, the Spinning Around chart-topper told The Sunday Times Magazine that her cancer diagnosis in 2005 forced her to “consider her options” when it comes to having children.

But despite taking motherhood for “granted” in the past, the singer has admitted she is “crazy” about being an Aunty.

Reflecting on the love her sister holds for her 6-year-old nephew Ethan, Dannii said:

“It’s a great sadness for her, it’s a great sadness for me and it’s also made me really understand how blessed I was to be a mother. Kylie wrote a song called Flower about how she feels about motherhood. It’s so beautiful it makes me cry. But you just don’t know what is going to happen in life.’

The Let It Shine judge has been in a relationship with music producer Adrian Newman since January 2014.
