With a mortgage to pay and two little girls at home, heading off to compete in a renovation reality show was a risky and difficult decision for Claire and Hagan.
The young parents confess the financial strain of leaving their jobs to film the show and the heartache of being so far away from their kids Matilda, four, and Darcy, two, was almost too much to bear at times.
‘It was really hard,’ Hagan, 27, tells New Idea. ‘We used to speak to Matilda every night and, towards the end of the conversation, we had to tell her we had to go and she used to start crying and asking us for a cuddle.
‘It got to me a fair bit. I just wanted to go home by the end of it.’
