Supermodel Christie Brinkley and singer John Mellencamp have split.
A rep for the couple tells People the couple called it quits after a year of dating.
‘Both the mileage between their homes and their heavy career demands interfered with their ability to maintain the relationship,’ a rep for both Brinkley and Mellencamp said. ‘They vowed to remain best of friends.’
The couple met at a party in the Hamptons in 2015, with Brinkley, 62, initially doubting she would be compatible with Mellencamp, 64.
‘I thought, “Oh my gosh, we’re really opposites. He’s kind of a throwback from another time, like a silent cowboy,”’ she told People. ‘But then we talked and realized that we do have a lot of shared interests.’
The singer and model bonded over their kids. Brinkley has three and Mellencamp has five.
‘You never really know what’s going to happen,’ she told People. ‘John and I are two people that have very full lives. We’re just trying to enjoy each other when we can see each other and try not to put too much [pressure] on it.’
