Casey Donovan has opened up about a very sensitive topic.

On the second episode of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Donovan explained how exactly she fell victim to a catfishing scam perpetrated by a female friend.

Donovan, 28, revealed that for six years she was part of a telephone-only relationship with a man who went under the name Campbell who professed his love for her, however there was on issue – he refused to ever meet in person. Donovan who was just a teen at the beginning of the relationship, was vulnerable and agreed to continue the relationship.

But Campbell was just a fabrication, made up by a woman named Olga, who had befriended Donovan right after she won Australian Idol.

Surrounded at camp with cast mates Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Tegan Martin and Ash Pollard, Pollard asks Donovan to share the heartbreaking story.

“I found out that the guy I was seeing was actually not real,” Donovan says, giving her shocked contestants a run down on ‘catfishing.’

“Catfishing is when you’re tricked into a relationship. A girl was pretending to be a guy, and that guy was the guy I was speaking to, was actually the girl,” she said.

“I thought that if I hung out with her, then I was gonna see him, because they were best friends.”

“For how long?” questioned Pollard.

“For six years. It started at sixteen, I’d never had a boyfriend, I was always the kid that was a bit different … and this guy was telling me that he loved me.”

Speaking to the camera away from the others, the singer broke down as she reflected on the emotionally time in her life.

“I think I’d known for a while that it wasn’t real,” she tearfully said into the camera.

“Because I’m not stupid. I thought someone actually loved me for me, and it was hard to find out it was all a lie.”
