Late actress Carrie Fisher had drugs including heroin and cocaine in her system at the time of her death, her toxicology report reveals.
In official documents from the coroner’s office show that Fisher had methadone, ethanol and opiates in her system when she died at 60 in December in 2016.
There was also traces of an anti-depressant and antihistamine in her system and remote exposure to MDMA.
“The exposure to cocaine took place sometime approximately in the last 72 hours of the sample that was obtained,” the report states.
Despite the drugs traces, it has not been confirmed that they contributed to her death.
“Based on the available toxicological information, we cannot establish the significance of the multiple substances that were detected in Ms. Fisher’s blood and tissue, with regard to the cause of death,” states the report.
The Coroner’s Office ultimately revealed the Star Wars star’s death was a result of sleep apnea and other “undetermined” factors.
Her daughter and fellow actress Billie Lourd released a statement following the report.
“My mum battled drug addiction and mental illness her entire life. She ultimately died of it. She was purposefully open in all of her work about the social stigmas surrounding these diseases,” Fisher’s only child said.
“She talked about the shame that torments people and their families confronted by these diseases. I know my Mum, she’d want her death to encourage people to be open about their struggles. Seek help, fight for government funding for mental health programs. Shame and those social stigmas are the enemies of progress to solutions and ultimately a cure. Love you Momby.”
