‘We need to stop it tearing beautiful families apart’

It’s been two years since she first launched the Beanies 4 Brain Cancer initiative.

And on Thursday Carrie Bickmore couldn’t have been happier as she announced live on The Project that the charity had won the Twining’s Tea design challenge.

“They are able to announce that I have won the challenge,” she told the show after accepting the award at the event on Sydney Harbour.

“This is my design right here!”

Showing off the ballerina inspired packaging, the TV presenter explained: “I did the design based on me as a little girl when I loved dancing.”

But when Carrie’s co-host Peter Helliar jokingly asked if the win meant he could stop buying tea, Carrie hit back saying: “Now is the time to start!”

“Before now I asked you to go on the website and vote and now you have to go guy it because 10 cents from every pack sold over the next four years goes towards Carrie’s Beanies for Brain Cancer,” the star pleaded.

Visibly overcome with emotion at the news of the win, the mother-of-two revealed her desperation to fund brain cancer research, recalling a story about a young boy who had recently succumbed to the deadly disease.

“We need to stop it tearing beautiful families apart,” she said.

“If you are wondering why I am so passionate and why I got involved in this and why you should buy this tea on the supermarket shelves, that is why.”
