Liz Hurley has a new man in her life, and it seems the shock new romance is ruffling plenty of royal feathers.
The model and actress has been spotted getting cosy with Italian property tycoon Niccolo Barattieri di San Pietro, 46, who dumped Princess Diana’s niece Lady Kitty Spencer just a few weeks ago.
The 26-year-old aristocrat – the daughter of Diana’s brother Earl Spencer – has reportedly been left heartbroken by her ex’s new romance with Liz who, at 52, is twice Kitty’s age.
The drama has left English high society reeling, and Prince Charles’ wife Camilla, in particular, is thought to be livid over Liz’s desperate ploy to grab headlines – and embroil the royal family in another controversial scandal.
‘Camilla is furious over this latest scandal,’ says a palace insider. ‘She thinks that Liz is just toying with the royal family and enjoys causing dramas.
‘She’s also convinced that Liz attracts rich and powerful men, and worries Prince Charles might be attracted to her. Things haven’t been going well in her marriage to Charles for a long time, and obviously he’s cheated in relationships before. However unlikely, she can’t help but worry.’
Camilla had hoped that the new biography The Duchess: The Untold Story by Penny junor would clear her name and people would finally like her, but her plan has completely backfired and people are upset over the butchering of Diana’s name. Moreover, Charles, 68, is said to be furious with her.
Meanwhile, Liz is currently filming the TV drama The Royals, and friends say her obsession with the palace is growing, fuelling 69-year-old Camilla’s fury even more.
‘Since Liz started filming her new TV show, she’s become obsessed with the royal family and Camilla knows it,’ says the source.
‘That’s how she first noticed Niccolo, who was photographed with Kitty at last year’s Serpentine Summer Party. While Prince Charles might be seen as the ultimate catch for Liz, she’s happy in her new relationship with Niccolo.’
