Seventies film beauty and famed rock wife Britt Ekland has confessed that an ill-advised lip augmentation almost ruined her life – describing the procedure as her biggest ever mistake. She even says that in her lowest moments her distorted mouth made her want to die.
The star, who appeared in such films as The Wicker Man and The Man With The Golden Gun, and famously dated Rod Stewart, says she bitterly regrets getting a controversial bovine-derived substance named Articol injected into her lips in 1994 after the disintegration of her marriage to Stray Cats drummer Slim Jim Phantom. She was 53 at the time.
‘After I split up with Jim, sometime in the 90s, I did a terrible thing,’ she admitted on British chat show Loose Women. ‘They put a lot of stuff in my lips and I’ve had to live with it.’
Despite numerous procedures to have it removed, Britt still endures the emotional and physical scars. She has contempt for the practitioner who did it to her, alleging he ‘used me as some sort of experiment.’
‘For a very long time, I couldn’t really do television or films. When you’re in the theatre, you’re very lucky because you have a distance so you can present yourself with something else. But it’s been very, very traumatic in my life.’
Now feeling much better about herself after numerous procedures to correct the damage, and a lot of time working on her emotions, she now strongly urges women friends not to have facial fillers of any kind.
But despite the better place she now finds herself in, she hasn’t forgiven the man who ruined her lips, admitting she would hurt him if she could.
