Ellen DeGeneres has opened up about how a little alcohol-fueled fun landed her in the emergency room.
On Tuesday’s episode of Ellen, the 59-year-old revealed that she had recently injured her finger after a night out with her wife Portia de Rossi.
“I know what you’re thinking,” she began.
“’How can you host a show without the tip of [your] ring finger?’
“I am not gonna let this beat me. I am not,” she joked.
“So, you know how in gymnastics when you do a one-handed cartwheel and you have to spread the weight evenly between all your fingers? Well, I had two glasses of wine and fell into a door.”
Ellen went on to explain that the pair were “were coming home from a dinner party” and were “almost at the front door when it happened.”
“The dogs were so excited to see us, and I caught the lip of the top step.”
She continued: “I was a foot away from the door, and I fell into the door, and it did something to my finger.”
“I knew something was wrong.”
The Arrested Development actress quickly drove her comedian love to the nearest hospital to get her injury checked out.
“I dislocated my finger,” she told the audience, showing off her splint.
“That’s what they call it, which is an incorrect term because I knew where it was located. It was just wrongly located is what it was.”
But luckily for Ellen, the doctors were able to “snap” her finger back into place.
“Before they did it, I was in incredible pain and [my nurse] said, ‘Do you want a shot?’ and I said, ‘No, I had two glasses of wine – that’s what got me into this mess in the first place.’”
“She meant a shot to numb by finger!”
