The Queen’s entire household has been called to an emergency meeting today, amidst speculation that a “historic announcement” will be made regarding the monarch’s husband Prince Philip.
According to reports, servants from royal residences across the UK have been ordered to London and are expected to be addressed by the Lord Chamberlain, and Her Majesty’s right-hand man, Private Secretary Sir Christopher Geidt.
While Buckingham Palace is yet to comment on the move, multiple sources say it is “highly unusual.”
“Everyone is on tenterhooks,” a royal insider told the Daily Mail.
“Although meetings involving the entire royal household are occasionally called, the way this has been done at the eleventh hour is highly unusual and suggests that there is something major to be disseminated.”
“But at the moment, only those closest to her genuinely know what on earth this is all about.”
The news comes as the Duke of Edinburgh prepares to celebrate his 96th birthday this June, having scaled back his royal commitments in recent times.
