Nicole Kidman says she was so traumatised playing a battered wife in the brutally realistic new TV series Big Little Lies, she found herself weeping at night as she surveyed the damage to her body.
The star says she threw herself totally into the role, and doesn’t blame anyone but herself for the bruising she took filming her shocking scenes.
‘I was pretty beaten up physically,’ she told news.com.au. ‘It was tough. I’d go home and be bruised all over, and my neck and parts of my body were really damaged because I had thrown myself into it to such a degree.’
Her co-star, Alexander Skarsgard, plays her abuser, but Nicole says he isn’t at fault for her trauma, and she refused to use a stunt person.
‘It wasn’t Alex’s fault, but we couldn’t get stunt people to do those things and it had to be very authentic,’ she told the site.
‘At the end of a day’s shooting I’d go home and sit in the bath and cry.’
