New Idea can reveal the 27-year-old was still in love with her ex, Matty’s former Bachelorette rival Jake Ellis, when she appeared on the show.

‘Jen and Jake were actually dating for five months before the show,’ an insider spills.

‘They met at an event but things had always been a bit on and off between them, which is why she signed up for the show.’

In the Bachelor mansion, the brunette beauty learned that Jake’s mum, Robyn, had taken a turn for the worse with her breast cancer battle, leaving the controversial contestant in tears.

‘Because Jake had been on the show, he was still friends with some crew members and Jen was able to get updates on how Robyn was going,’ the source explains.

‘After only a couple of weeks in, she found out she wasn’t responding to treatment and had to stop working. She was beside herself with worry and had a complete breakdown.’

And while Jen was initially hopeful that she would
develop feelings for Matty, the heartbreaking news made it
 clear that there would never
be anything more than friendship, because her heart still belonged to Jake.

‘She knew Jake would be devastated and she wanted to be there for him,’ the source tells.

‘So she decided to leave the mansion for good.’

‘She couldn’t say it was because of Jake, and as it was no secret she wasn’t getting along with everyone, it was the easiest way out.’
