After she failed to do as well as she’d have liked last year, mother-of-two Mel Armstrong, 39, is back and stronger than ever.
“The first season I did, I thought I just had to be really fit and strong,” she says.

“Whereas this season, I’ve been bouldering so much for the grip strength.”
But it’s not just her training that she is focused on – Mel has also completely overhauled her diet and now follows intermittent fasting.
“When I’m not in training I’ll do 16:8,” she reveals of her diet that restricts eating to only eight hours of the day.
“But for the last couple of months I’ve done two 24-hour fasts a week. It just really suits my personality.”
While she admits that she loves a glass of chardonnay with cheese, when it comes to what she eats on her diet, Mel tends to stick to healthy foods.
“I would never eat McDonald’s or any of that,” she shares.
