Angelina Jolie has finally opened up about her nightmare divorce from Brad Pitt in an emotional interview for Vanity Fair magazine.

The 42-year-old mum-of-six was interviewed in her new mansion in Los Feliz – just four days after the family moved in – and revealed: “It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air.”

Despite her wish to not talk about the divorce for the sake of the kids, Angie was said to be clearly holding back a lot of “anger and pain” when the subject comes up.

Admitting Brad’s explosive interview in GQ was not a surprise, when asked if communication between them had improved she adds – after a long thoughtful pause: “We care for each other and care about our family, and we are both working towards the same goal. I was very worried about my mother, growing up—a lot. I do not want my children to be worried about me. I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is.”

Angie, who has six kids with Brad, Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Shiloh, 11, Zahara, 12, and twins Vivienne and Knox, nine, admits it’s not been easy on them.

“They’ve been very brave. They were very brave,” she says. “In times they needed to be. We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing… They’re not healing from divorce. They’re healing from some… from life, from things in life.”

The Maleficent star, who details how filming First They Killed My Father in Cambodia had a huge impact on her and Cambodian-born son Maddox, also opens up about her health issues since having preventative surgery that removed her ovaries – a situation that sparked menopause and, last year, hypertension.

Last year she also endured Bell’s Palsy, which resulted in one side of her face dropping – an affliction that was cured by acupuncture.

“I can’t tell if it’s menopause or if it’s just been the year I’ve had,” she admits.

“Sometimes women in families put themselves last until it manifests itself in their own health.

“I’m just wanting to make the proper breakfast and keep the house. That’s my passion. At the request of my kids, I’m taking cooking classes. As I go to sleep at night, I think, Did I do a great job as a mom or was that an average day?”
