Angelina Jolie – who has famous had both her breasts and ovaries removed to prevent them being attacked by cancer – is is facing fresh family heartache at the hands of the insidious disease.
Many of her relatives carry the faulty BRAC1 gene, which shockingly increased Angie’s risk of breast cancer by more than 80 percent – and now the actress has learned that her lookalike cousin Cory is also suffering a similar fate.
US magazine Star reports that the 39-year-old San Diego businessman – also a carrier of the gene – is battling melanoma.
“Most people don’t know that men, as well as women, can carry the gene,” he told the publication. ‘It’s important to get awareness out there.”
Cory’s own mother Debra – sister of Angelina’s late mother Marcheline, who died of Ovarian cancer – passed away in 2013 following her battle with breast cancer. Six more of Angelina’s extended family has succumbed to various forms of the disease.
