Angelina Jolie has become caught up in another adoption scandal, after it was alleged that her eldest son Maddox was adopted after false paperwork was submitted.
Cambodian aid worker Mounh Sarath, 51, alleges that he signed off on papers, falsely claiming to be the boy’s father, in order to push the adoption through without problems at a time when authorities were cracking down on corrupt adoptions.
‘In court documents, Maddox is still my son,’ he told Britain’s Sun on Sunday. ‘She never cleared this up.
‘She had to change his name, so the only way was for me to do it. I said he’s my son.’
He says this relationship with Angelina has now soured in the wake of the alleged unresolved irregularities.
‘I would be happy if Cambodia didn’t see her again,’ he told the paper.
The Sun was at pains to point out there is no implication that Angelina or her then husband Billy Bob Thornton knew that irregular paperwork had been filed to expedite the adoption, or were in any way involved in corrupt practices.
At the time, Angelina said she went to ‘great lengths to ensure Maddox did not have a living birth-mother in Cambodia’ and insisted she would ‘never rob a mother of her child.’
