Footy hero Alex McKinnon: Our miracle baby

The couple can't wait for this next chapter!

Four years ago the future looked bleak for 26-year-old Alex McKinnon, after a horror accident on the football field left the former Newcastle Knights forward with a broken neck.

Now the future couldn’t be brighter for the ex-league star, as he and wife Teigan proudly announce there’s now a mini McKinnon on the way!

Taking to Instagram to spread the word that they’re expecting their first baby, the happy couple posed with a picture of the ultrasound and wrote a caption, saying:

‘So overwhelmed with joy to finally announce baby McKinnon is coming soon.’

Their baby joy is nothing short of a miracle, following a tackle on the field in 2014 that left Alex a quadriplegic.

As he fought for his life at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, his teen sweetheart Teigan kept a bedside vigil.

It was touch and go, but with a fierce determination to live, Alex pulled through. He had a lot to live for, and not wanting to waste a moment, he proposed to Teigan just weeks after waking from an induced coma.

Sharing their fairytale wedding exclusively with New Idea last year, Alex defied the odds again when he got up from his wheelchair and stood throughout the wedding.

‘We started crying every time we caught each other’s eye,’ Teigan said at the time.

And it’s no doubt that tears of joy will be flowing again later this year when the two lovebirds welcome their miracle new addition to the family.

‘I’m pretty pumped,’ says the doting daddy-to-be.
