It’s official: Adele and her longtime love Simon Konecki have said “I do!”
Despite wedding rumours circulating for months, the singer shocked fans when she made the announcement that the pair had secretly tied the knot during a live performance in Brisbane on Sunday night.
“I could see in their eyes as they were listening to it on their headphones that it reminded them of something or someone,” she revealed to the crowd, referring to her smash hit Someone Like You.
“I was trying to remember how it was I felt at the beginning of the relationship that inspired that record because as bad as a break up can be, as bitter and horrible and messy as it can be, that feeling when you first fall for someone is the best feeling on earth, and I am addicted to that feeling.”
“Obviously I can’t go through with those feelings because I’m married now,” the 28-year-old continued.”
“I’ve found my next person.”
This isn’t the first time that the Hello chart-slayer has teased fans by dropping hints about her nuptials.
While accepting her Grammy award for album of the year for 25 back in February, the mother-of-one dropped a bombshell when she said:
“Grammys, I appreciate it, the Academy, I love you, my manager, my husband and my son – you’re the only reason I do it.”
But later, she proceeded to refer to Konecki as her “partner” as she spoke to reporters backstage in the press room.
The couple – who share four-year-old son Angelo together – only fueled the speculation last month when the Grammy winner was snapped wearing a wedding band on her left ring finger. At the time, her reps declined to comment on the matter.
The pair first met in 2011, but their relationship was largely left out of the spotlight until the star announced her pregnancy in 2012.
In a previous interview with Vanity Fair, Adele couldn’t help but gush about her love, saying: “He’s not threatened by any stage of my life that I’m going for, and that’s an amazing thing.”
“He’s confident. He’s perfect,” she added.
