Adele has sadly had to cancel the last two shows of her world tour after damaging her vocal chords.
The 29-year-old British superstar announced the sad news about the remaining London gigs, which were due to take place this weekend, via her Twitter page, stating that she was ‘devastated’ and asked her fans to ‘please forgive’ her.
‘I don’t even know how to start this,’ she began the lengthy statement.
‘The last two nights at Wembley have been the biggest and best shows of my life,’ she wrote.
‘To come home to such a response after so long away doing something I never thought I could pull off but did has blown me away. However, I’ve struggled vocally both nights. I had to push a lot harder than I normally do.’
The star then stated that after considering all options – even admitting she had thought about miming – that she went with her doctors advise and cancelled the remaining shows.
The final two Wembley shows were meant to happen on July 1 and July 2 at Wembley Stadium where she was expected to perform for close to 100,000 people. It would also have been her 122nd and 123rd shows — a record-breaking feat on a tour that has already broken records in almost all the cities she’s played in.
However, this isn’t the first time the mum-of-one has been forced to cancel shows due to vocal chord damage.
In 2011 the singer cancelled two tours because of a vocal chord haemorrhage and had surgery a month later to remove polyps in her throat.
The news comes just one day after Adele hinted that she may be giving up touring for good.
In a handwritten note given away to one lucky fan, the star wrote:
“So this is it. After 15 months on the road and 18 months of 25 we’re at the end”.
“I’ve done 119 shows and these last four will take me up to 123, it has been hard out an absolute thrill and pleasure to have done.
“I only ever did this tour for you and to hopefully have an impact on you the way that some of my favourite artists have had on me live.
“And I wanted my final shows to be in London because I don’t know if I’ll ever tour again and so I want my last time to be at home.
“Thank you for coming, for all of your ridiculous love and kindness. I will remember all of this for the rest of my life. Love you. Goodnight for now.”
