On Saturday, Harambe, a 204kg gorilla, was shot at Cincinnati Zoo when a four-year-old boy fell into the animal’s enclosure.
Since the tragic incident, the public has erupted with their varying opinions on how the situation was handled. While some are criticising the zoo’s decision to shoot the ape, others are directing their anger at the parents for not properly supervising their son.
British TV personality and journalist Piers Morgan tweeted: 'RIP Harambe. A magnificent gorilla dies because a zoo failed to make its barriers safe.' When asked what the parents were doing, Morgan continued: 'Taking their eye off the ball, but no child should ever be able to crawl into a gorilla compound.'
Rapper-turned-actor Ice-T mockingly stated: 'BREAKING NEWS; Police say the Gorilla had Gang ties and was fleeing the scene…'
The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco posted a photo of Harambe on Instagram with the caption: 'RIP #harambe Im sure I will get tons of backlash (per usual) I mean let's be honest, I wear the wrong sweatpants and the entire world has something to say about it, but once again , another senseless horrendous animal being killed over people not using their brains. If you watch the footage, you see this gorgeous animal holding that child's hand. Do with that what you will. As sad as this makes me, a part of me is happy for that amazing creature doesn't have to live in captivity another day. Bring on the hate!!!! (sic)"
Even US presidential hopeful Donald Trump has got involved, stating: 'I think it is a very tough call. It was amazing because there were moments with the gorilla the way he held that child was almost like a mother holding a baby, it looked so beautiful and calm, and there were moments when he looked pretty dangerous. I don't think they had a choice.'
