The family of accused Aussie drug smuggler Cassie Sainsbury have landed in Colombia, exactly one month after the 22-year-old was arrested trying to flee the country with 5.8kg of cocaine allegedly hidden in her suitcase.
According to New Corp, the Sainsbury’s mother Lisa Evans and sister Khala arrived in Bogota shortly before midday local time, with the pair preparing to visit their loved one where she remains behind bars at El Buen Pastor prison.
The South-Australian family have copped heavy criticism in recent weeks, amidst reports they have secured a million-dollar deal in exchange for a tell-all interview with 60 Minutes.
The show’s news crew, including reporter Liam Bartlett also touched down at El Dorado International airport on Thursday.
It is believed that the family’s travel expenses have been paid for by the Nine network.
It’s not yet known whether Sainsbury’s fiancé Scott Broadbridge – who maintains the Adelaide woman’s innocence – intends to see her in jail.
