A massive fire has engulfed the roof of the famous Notre Dame cathedral in Paris in a devasting fire.
According to ABC News, flames began in the early evening and then burnt thorugh the roof of the cathedral.
It has been reported that the roof of Notre Dame has now collapsed.
According to ABC News, the fire has now spread to the church's landmark regular towers.
A spokesman for the Paris Fire Department said the next hour-and-a-half was "crucial" in order to see if the fire could be contained.
A spokesperson has said the blaze was likely to bring the entire wooden frame of the cathedral down.
"Everything is burning, nothing will remain from the frame," Notre Dame spokesman Andre Finot told French media.
The cathedral is an iconic Parisian landmark and was first constructed in 1163, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
